Hi I'm Rani!
I'm a Dutch illustrator and graphic designer based in the Netherlands. I grew up in four different countries, where I saw social and environmental challenges firsthand. From an early age, I became fascinated by the relationship between people and places, and that curiosity grew into a lifelong passion for sustainable development.
Career in sustainable development
My career has taken me through a range of roles in international and national development, from advisor integrated spatial planning to monitoring, evaluation and learning of food systems, and data-driven decision-making. I've worked at knowledge institutes, non-profits, governments, and consultancies across many sustainable development themes.
I found a few things these jobs all had in common: a lot of text, complex information, and collaboration across different cultures and disciplines. That's where I saw a huge opportunity for visual communication, something I was personally greatly in need of.
What I do now
Illustration and graphic design have been part of my life since 2007, and in 2021 I turned that passion into my business. Today, next to my job in data, I combine my experience in sustainable development with visual storytelling to create infographics, reports, illustrations, and visual identities that help people understand, connect with, and share important information.
Who I work with
I work mostly with researchers, knowledge institutes, governments, consultancies, startups, and other changemakers who are working towards a more sustainable world. If that sounds like you, I'd love to help bring your ideas to life.
Theme's I work on
I work on non-fiction social and environmental theme's for any purpose. The sustainable development goals theme's are a good starting point
Values
My work is rooted in inclusion, collaboration, and sustainability. When I first started I created paperware that represented more diverse people as I couldn't recognize myself or my family in what was out there at the time. You can read more about that in this blog here. This foundation is carried through the rest of my work where I create visuals that are thoughtful, accessible, and designed for diverse audiences. I also believe in making communication sustainable by creating visual systems and assets that can be reused and adapted for years to come. Thanks to my background, I speak the same technical language as my clients, making collaboration easy and helping me create visuals that truly fit the people they're made for.
When I'm not designing, you'll probably find me travelling, exploring nature, visiting museums, reading a book, or going for a run.
