Hi! I'm Rani

I use illustration and visual storytelling to amplify the work of changemakers — people and organizations building a more just, sustainable world. with inclusion, accessibility, and diversity at the core.

Before becoming a visual storyteller and inclusive designer I worked with governments and research institutes in the sustainable development field. That gave me a deep understanding of the stakeholders, the complexity of the themes, and the language they speak. I saw the power of visuals in this work—and decided to make it my job.

With over 15 years of hands-on experience in sustainable development in different positions, I now collaborate with non-profits, purpose-led startups, researchers, and small businesses who are driving real impact. From food systems to urbanization, energy transition to spatial planning, I help bring complex ideas to life in ways that are clear, compelling, and deeply human.

At the heart of everything I do is a belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, included, and empowered. That’s why inclusion, accessibility, and diversity aren’t just values in my work — they’re the foundation. Every visual I create is designed to reflect the richness of the real world, and to make your message resonate with the people who matter most.

Some of the areas I’ve worked in before becoming an illustrator include:

  • Agriculture

  • Energy transition

  • Food systems transformation

  • Urbanisation

  • Water programs

  • Integrated spatial development

  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)

If you're working to create change, I’m here to help you show it — powerfully, clearly, and with purpose.

Whether it’s a playful illustration or a powerful impact infographic, I use design to make sustainability more accessible, engaging, and inclusive for everyone.

My story

I’m adopted and grew up in multiple countries, surrounded by different cultures, identities, and ways of living. That global experience shaped how I see the world — and my work. From a young age, I witnessed social and environmental challenges firsthand, and I knew I wanted to be part of the solution.

Coming from a position of privilege, I chose to study international development to focus on global issues like inequality, climate justice, and community resilience. Over the years, I’ve worked in local politics and international spaces, always seeking ways to make impact more inclusive.

Belonging hasn’t always come easily — not Dutch enough, not quite anything enough. That in-between space is a big part of who I am and why I care so deeply about inclusion. Disabilities also run in my family, and that’s made me even more committed to creating work that’s accessible, empathetic, and welcoming.

Visual storytelling is my way of bridging gaps — between people, disciplines, and perspectives. It’s how I help others feel like they belong, too.
