01 The Project

This was submitted as a short story for FAO World Soil Day 2024 with the theme of Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage.

02 The Challenge

  • Illustrate a children’s story (ages 6–11) that explains the complex topic of soil health and data in an engaging, age-appropriate way.

  • Communicate scientific themes like data collection, data privacy, and soil monitoring without overwhelming young readers.

  • Create visuals that are both educational and relatable, while aligning with the FAO’s messaging and the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Manage, Monitor.”

  • Ensure the story empowers a diverse audience and encourages early environmental awareness.

03 The Solution

  • Illustrated a 12-page children's book using vibrant, playful visuals and a curious young girl as the lead character to guide the narrative and enhance relatability.

  • Simplified scientific concepts into clear, memorable storytelling through expressive characters and immersive environments.

  • Used visual storytelling techniques to make topics like soil data and environmental care both accessible and inspiring.

  • Helped FAO celebrate the 10th Anniversary of World Soil Day by transforming vital but invisible issues into a story that informs, engages, and empowers young readers.
